Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this position is responsible for designing, organizing and facilitating environmental education programming for summer nature day camps for children ages 4-12 years old.

Summary

This position is responsible for planning and teaching nature day camp lessons in a fun and engaging manner; ensuring safety; being actively involved with children; working cooperatively with staff, interns and teen volunteers; interacting with parents/guardians professionally; other duties as assigned. Nature Day Camp Instructors are responsible for developing and teaching environmentally focused curriculum both inside and in an outdoor environment to children ages 4-12. The qualified candidate may also assist with other off-site environmental education programming.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least one year of college course work in natural science, outdoor or environmental education, art education or related field, or at least two years of working with children ages 4-12 in a professional setting.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.
  • Must have leadership skills and imitative with ability to be a team player.
  • Enjoy working with children and teens.
  • Must be creative, energetic and patient.
  • Enjoy the natural world and working in an outdoor environment.
  • Current valid First Aid and CPR cards required.

After careful consideration, Metro Parks has implemented the following directive that combines Governor Inslee’s school-based requirement with the Park District’s desire to protect children within its own facilities: Employees, volunteers, and vendors who work at school sites or who regularly come into contact with children under age 12 as a core function of their role with Metro Parks must show proof of full vaccination to designated agency personnel. HOURS: June 20th – August 26th, 2022. 40 hours per week Monday-Friday.
