Summary
Make a difference with teenagers in the beautiful backcountry on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington. CedarRoot Folk School is seeking a Lead Instructor for its Summer Olympic Exploration Program
Job Description:
The Olympic Exploration Adventure is a new summer program designed to mentor underserved students ages 13-18 in developing a strong relationship with the natural world while building social skills and personal confidence. The highlight of this program is a weeklong camping adventure in the Olympic Mountains with subsequent monthly campouts to check in on well-being and continue peer bonding and support.
The program will begin with a meet and greet party and a week of day camps to prepare campers and build wilderness skills. Daily camp activities will include team building, sensory awareness, natural history and developing practical backcountry skills. After the prep week, campers will set off on a weeklong adventure in the Olympic mountains which will include basic wildlife tracking, foraging and meal prep, and wilderness safety skills. Students will then come together for monthly one-night reunion campouts through October.
This is a unique opportunity for the right applicant to make a lasting impact on local underserved youth. The Lead Instructor will create a safe and fun environment for students to develop a strong relationship with the natural world while also building social skills and personal confidence.
