Summary
In operation since 2009, the CRC water quality monitoring laboratory is central to the organization's community science program. Our lab is a central site where watershed organizations can bring water samples, have them processed, and quickly get critical water quality information posted for the public and decision-makers. The largest monitoring effort at CRC is the bacteria monitoring program. The CRC lab processes over 1,000 E. coli samples during the months May- October. Samples are collected weekly at over 80 sites by community members and partnership organizations throughout the watershed and processed at CRC headquarters. Once samples are analyzed, results are posted on www.ctriver.org/isitclean for the public to see. The work requires a high degree of attention to detail and strong communication skills.
In addition to bacteria monitoring, the lab also runs various other monitoring programs such as microplastics, temperature, nutrient, conductivity and turbidity. This position is integral to the continued success and growth of CRC’s lab and the continuation of our strong relationships with watershed partners. This position is currently being offered as a part time, seasonal Lab Technician position. However, there is an opportunity for growth into a Lab Manager role, with expanded hours and responsibilities.
