Nature Kids Community Liaison

The Community Liaison primarily supports Thorne and Nature Kids/Jóvenes de la Naturaleza (NKJN) with culturally competent outreach, recruitment, program registration, data entry, and/or social media and marketing. The Nature Kids Community Liaison will focus on removing barriers to participation in NKJN programs for Boulder and Lafayette youth and their families who have historically experienced disparities in access to the outdoors and outdoor programming. This position may also involve collaboration with multiple community partners including local government. The position could include any combination of the below responsibilities depending on the skills, abilities, and time available of the chosen candidate(s).  

Job Title: Nature Kids Community Liaison 
Reports to: Director for Nature For All 
Job Status: Seasonal Employee OR temporary contractor status 
Salary: $23/hour, 30 hours/week average between Present – August 31, 2022 

Principal Responsibilities:  

• Cultivate and steward positive relationships with community members and learn about their needs, desires, and cultural connections around the outdoors. 
• Attend NKJN programs to build meaningful and inclusive relationships with the community. 
• Implement recruitment and registration for NKJN programs for youth and families. 
• Design and facilitate culturally resonant nature and outdoor recreation themed events for youth and families. 
• Assist with NKJN outreach including program events, partner program visits, and phone calls. 
• Remove barriers to participation by coordinating/providing transportation, translation, and other supports including communication between program providers with families. This includes communication with community members via phone, text, email, and in-person. A Google phone number and/or a Nature Kids cell phone will be provided 
• Support with data tracking and entry for programs. 
• Assist Director for Nature For All with other Nature Kids related tasks including program operations (program facilitation/recruitment/registration) and communication (social media posts and newsletters)  

Special Requirements:  

• Bi-lingual (Spanish and English) with  written and verbal capacities required. 
• Must have a driver’s license, a driving record in good standing, and a personal car with insurance and be willing to drive to and from NKJN programs (vehicle expenses are reimbursed). 
• Must have a flexible schedule to permit for participation Thorne/NKJN programming which may occur in the evening or on weekends.

• Culturally competent with strong understanding of the needs and desires of Latino/a/x youth and families in Boulder County. 
• Strong communication skills with multigenerational audiences. 
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and roles, patiently and professionally. 
• Strong skills with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Google Forms. 
• Willingness to learn new platforms such as Mail Chimp and CampMinder database. 

Desired Outcomes: Nature Kids participants and community members will feel welcomed in NKJN programs and received assistance needed to complete all paperwork prior to programming. They will have clear lines of communication regarding information for programs and addressing questions/concerns. Nature Kids will have a streamlined process to collect, track, and share information with organizations providing programs through Nature Kids.

Minimum Qualifications:  

• Must be 18 or older 
• Background check and fingerprints submitted and cleared by the Colorado Department of Human Services (Thorne coordinates and pays for this) 
• Fluent in Spanish 
• Culturally competent 
• Ability to work with community members and on administrative tasks in an office setting. 
• Working Conditions: This role requires a physical ability to perform tasks in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions including lifting, standing for long periods, walking on rough terrain and kneeling. Work takes place in both an office setting and field setting with continuous interruptions and background noises.
