Summary
Canyonlands Field Institute's (CFI) mission is to provide quality outdoor education programs that inspire care of wild places and renew the human spirit. CFI has over 38 years of experience leading outdoor expeditions for schools, families and adult workshops. We are currently partners in the Working Towards Racial Equity project with UC Berkeley and Justice Outside.
The Site Steward position is based at Professor Valley Field Camp, a rustic facility on private land located 20 miles from Moab, UT. The camp is surrounded by open space, world class views and spectacular night skies. The Field Camp has two yurts, 15 tipis and storage barn and is used for environmental/outdoor education.
The Site Steward is responsible for grounds and trails, basic facility upkeep, assisting with meals, driving shuttles and leading a weekly service project. The Site Steward primarily works with middle and high school groups though will also support a few adult and family programs.
This is an opportunity through the national AmeriCorps program. The hiring and supervision is by Canyonlands Field Institute. The Site Steward is an Individual Placement AmeriCorps position under the sponsorship of the Utah Conservation Corps headquartered at Utah State University.
Hours: Term is 675 hours / Hours 40 week, varies
Benefits: Living stipend of $6353.00 paid out in equal installments. An AmeriCorps Education Award for completion of service: $2427.14 On-site RV housing and meals provided during CFI programs.
Vehicle: Must have own vehicle for town services (laundry, food, fun); any work related mileage is reimbursed
Desired Term of Service: August 1st - November 15th, 2022
The applicant must be 21 years or older, have a valid driver license and a good driving record for three years in order to meet CFI’s insurance requirements. Applicants should have a minimum of Basic First Aid, CPR and Food Handler (any state) certifications. Online certificates are acceptable. AmeriCorps requires that applicant be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident alien; have a high school diploma or GED and be clear of any record on the National Sex Offender Public Registry.
