Students learn about their water supply and the importance of conserving it. The mission of the Santa Fe Watershed Association is to protect and restore the health and vibrancy of the Santa Fe River and its watershed for the benefit of people and the environment.

Summary

SFWA Education Assistant 

  • Reports to the Director of Education
  • Works with SFWA Director of Education and SFWA staff to support all SFWA education programs. Priorities include facilitating and leading My Water, My Watershed (MWMW) field trips and classroom visits, outreach and implementation of the Mi Arroyo, Mi Tierra curriculum unit, and other educational program support.
  • Using MWMW program curriculum, facilitate one hour pre- and post-classroom visits for each MWMW participating class
  • Facilitate field trip days that includes briefing volunteers and parent chaperones, communicating with teachers and transportation, working with City of Santa Fe staff, and leading students in exploring the Upper Santa Fe Watershed using MWMW program curriculum
  • Outreach to teachers and the SFPS district to promote and recruit program participants for the 5th Grade My Water, My Watershed and 6th Grade Mi Arroyo, Mi Tierra programs
  • Assist the Director of Education with educational outreach and teacher professional development
  • Grading pre and post online student assessments and assist with end of year reporting
  • Maintain program supplies and equipment
  • Support Stewardship and Restoration projects as needed
  • Ongoing miscellaneous organization tasks to support the mission of the Santa Fe Watershed Association

Skills and Requirements

  • Passion for learning, sharing knowledge, and collaboration
  • Classroom management skills
  • Comfort and ability teaching in an outdoor environment in a variety of conditions
  • Excellent communication and calendar management
  • Ability to lead adult volunteers
  • Comfort using computers and other standard technology
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Must have own transportation
  • Proficiency or fluency in Spanish is preferred

15 hours/week, $20/hr starting with opportunity for position to increase in pay, hours, and responsibility based on performance and interest.
