Featured Open Partner Positions, East Bay Area

For the 2022-23 cycle beginning in September 2022, Climate Corps partners offer a wide variety of fellowship placements. Partner positions will continuously be added to our website throughout spring and summer 2022. Here are some of our featured fellowships in the East Bay Area:

Program Associate - AmeriCorps, Earth Team (Richmond)

Earth Team programs focus on youth development, environmental issues (waste reduction, climate change, transportation systems and air quality, watershed restoration) and emphasize hands-on experiences that drive change and innovation. The organization is committed to maintaining relationships with community partners and working hard to serve schools with limited resources and students who are often underrepresented in the outdoors and STEM / Environmental careers. Earth Team programs and outdoor excursions inspire students to develop a relationship with the outdoors, and encourage student leadership, peer-to-peer education, teamwork, critical thinking, problem solving, communication and the use of information technology. Earth Team provides the opportunity for young, eager individuals to make impactful changes while growing and learning immensely.

Earth Team is looking to hire a PROGRAM ASSOCIATE to work on the following programs: climate/ transportation/ air quality and watershed restoration. The position is primarily a field planning and field work position with some office and administrative work. The ideal candidate will have a passion for creating and delivering environmental curriculum in the classroom and action-oriented service-learning projects in the field working in an after-school setting for one year with two different teams of 12-14 high school students from a diversity of schools and backgrounds. Instructional Garden Leader - AmeriCorps, Oakland Unified School District (Oakland)

The OUSD Central Kitchen, Education Center, and Instructional Garden/Farm (The Center) is a new facility located at 2850 West Street. While aligning with Nutrition Services and the school food production housed there, The Education and Community Programs Team collaboratively develops programs that link the environment, food, and gardens on site and for OUSD school sites.

The Center brings tremendous opportunity to Oakland students, families and staff in the areas of environment, food and gardens (EFG).  The Center becomes the hub for this work and its alignment with the school meal program bringing fresher, less processed, and appealing food to our students.  Programming takes place at The Center itself; at school sites; and in the Oakland community.

This position will support the instructional garden, greenhouse, developing farm at the Central Kitchen and Education Center, with some time spent supporting school site gardens. Click here to read more and apply!

Energy is Everything Education Fellow - AmeriCorps, The Energy Coalition (Oakland)

The Energy Coalition (or TEC, pronounced “tech”) is a nonprofit organization with over 45 years of experience designing and implementing strategies that transform energy use and inspire people to take responsible energy actions. TEC works closely with K-12 school districts, local governments, special districts, and other public entities to develop energy efficiency strategies and projects that support statewide energy goals. TEC has employed AmeriCorps fellows to support resource saving programs, supporting educators in program implementation, and building capacity in reaching underserved populations.

Energy is Everything program - The Fellow will focus on expanding core energy, climate, and environmental programs by supporting statewide education, training, and workforce development initiatives offered through TEC with particular emphasis on expansion and development related to at-risk, formal, and informal service populations. The Fellow will support building partnerships with disadvantaged communities and populations throughout California.

Additionally, the Fellow will support in-class and field-based activities through direct student education, community activities, and the development of new materials and offerings. AmeriCorps Qualifications:

• Be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents
• Have a high school diploma/GED
• Be 17 years old or older
• Pass state criminal and FBI background checks, and a national check in the Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Registry
• Test negatively for tuberculosis if working with minors
• Be vaccinated against COVID-19 or submit to weekly testing
• Live in the state of California

Desired Qualifications (General):

• Availability and commitment to the full-time fellowship program. Fellowships typically range from 10-12 months in length and will begin in September 2022. Most positions currently include some on-site work, unless noted otherwise in the position description.
• Climate Corps Fellows must have completed a 4-year degree by the time the program cycle starts. We are looking for emerging professionals with:
• An educational background in environmental policy, science, engineering, sustainable management or planning degrees (volunteer and internship experience will be considered).
• A general understanding of clean energy or environmental policy.
• Community outreach and communications experience.
• A connection to the placement location. This is an equal opportunity position and we prefer to place a candidate who already lives in the region being served.
• Genuine commitment to anti-racism, willingness to work in racial equity frameworks, experience in addressing racism and racial equity with team members and programmatically.

• Living allowance stipend of $2,636+ per month (before taxes). Select positions may offer an enhanced stipend.

To become a Fellow, please submit an online application and resume. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all placements are filled.  Once the application is complete and has been reviewed, applicants who qualify will be contacted for an interview. Fellows need to be available and eligible to start by the first week of September 2022.
