American Conservation Experience, a non-profit conservation corps, is currently seeking energetic and ambitious participants to engage in national service as AmeriCorps members in a multi-week professional, outdoor skills-training opportunity. ACE intends to provide a meaningful service to regional communities and public lands by taking direct action through conservation of our valuable natural resources.

Summary

AmeriCorps Members in our Crew program will be active for a 40-hour work week, learning techniques of conservation and public land management based on planned field projects scheduled for the 2022 season. Training takes place on project sites, hands-on, and includes concepts of trail construction, dry stone masonry, invasive plant removal, revegetation, fence construction, forest ecology techniques and restoration, enhanced safety training, and Leave No Trace principles, under the guidance of ACE's skilled Crew leaders and Project Managers alongside Agency Partner Advisors. The goal of ACE Crew is to accomplish seasonally appropriate, timely, and meaningful conservation efforts for public land management agencies in need, while becoming proficient in field techniques, building resumes, and advancing career pathways.

  • Working 10 hours per day for 8 consecutive days on a crew comprised of 6-12 other service members in outdoor locations. 40 hours/weekly of project time expected regularly.
  • 6 days off in between your project trips.
  • Working and camping (including backcountry) in a variety of weather including temperatures ranging from cold overnights (freezing temperatures), hot and dry (100+ degrees), high winds, intense sunshine, and rain may be possible during this time period at all elevations.
  • Assisting UT State Parks partnerships and Federal public land managers, and non-profit public lands
  • Serving on environmental stewardship projects including (but not limited to): Trail Construction/Maintenance, Dry Stone Masonry, Retaining Wall and Rock Step Construction when assigned to trail crews, and Forest Ecology Fuels Restoration and Habitat Restoration. Alternative restoration projects are possible.
  • Hiking extended distances on potentially steep and rough terrain with a 40-pound backpack

Projects take place throughout the west. Crews frequently work in Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and National Forests including Fishlake and Manti La Sal. Project areas also include all over Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, South Dakota, and Washington.

Housing for "off-days" located in our Hurricane, Utah headquarters of ACE Mountain West. Member project assignments are announced several weeks in advance when possible.
