Summary
Looking for an assistant preschool teacher to work with ages 2-5 on Monday 8:30-2:40 and Tuesday 8:30-11:30 We are a forest school where we spend all hours outside in all types of weather. We are bilingual and are ideally looking for a Spanish speaker, but this isn't a deal breaker.
Work with a lead teacher during our school year which is 12 months September-August or September-June. The class ratio is 1 teacher to 4.5 students with a limit of 9 students per class. We use Montessori and Waldorf Teaching Philosophies, so a bonus if you have experience in these areas, but, not necessary.
Teacher will support the lead teacher in keeping the students warm, helping them with their gear, observing their play from a distance to monitor safety and inclusion. We highly value social justice issues and use students play as opportunities to teach about inclusion, differing abilities, problem solving, sharing resources, checking our own power and influence on other students, inviting other who are on the outside to join the play, being aware of the opportunities and bringing balance by inviting or checking in. Social emotional intelligence is essential with this age group.
Our school is very strong on community and building intentional relationships. Teachers are expected to connect to families and become a larger part through monthly potlucks and work parties.
Chavitos Nature School provides entirely outdoor education programs that is distinguished by:
A commitment to 100% outdoor nature immersion

Emergent curriculum- we follow the child’s interests and teach with snapshot moments.
Inquiry-based teaching style
An emphasis on authentic play
Small class size: 1:4.5 teacher:student ratio. The limit is 9 students per class.
Spanish immersion: at least one teacher will speak exclusively Spanish to children. Ideally both teachers will speak Spanish.
We believe that children, learn best through direct experience with the natural world. Our goal is to tap into their sense of wonder about nature, while teaching basic environmental and natural science principles. We promote individual empowerment and group bonding, respect for all living beings, and how to minimize our impact on the earth. Our lesson plans flow organically from what nature presents each day.
Diversity is a core value at our school. We encourage people who identify as BIPOC and LGBTQA to apply.
