Summary
Our elementary program is hiring for a nature teacher. The position is Monday-Friday 8:30-12:00. Teacher will work outside for all classes. They will teach grades K-6 art, cooking, and games while working with another nature teachers who will teach science, social justice, marimba, and gardening.
We are a forest school where we spend all hours outside in all types of weather. We are bilingual and are ideally looking for a Spanish speaker, but this isn't a deal breaker.
The school year which is 9 months September-May. The class limit is 12 students. We use Montessori teaching philosophies, so a bonus if you have experience in these areas, but, not necessary. Teachers must be adapt at classroom management and be able to differeintiate instruction for whole group activites of K-6.
We highly value social justice issues and use students play as opportunities to teach about inclusion, differing abilities, problem solving, sharing resources, checking our own power and influence on other students, inviting other who are on the outside to join the play, being aware of the opportunities and bringing balance by inviting or checking in. Social emotional intelligence is essential with this age group. Because of this we also strongly encouage teacher who bring diversity to the class to apply.
Our school is very strong on community and building intentional relationships. Teachers are encouraged to connect to families and become a larger part through monthly potlucks and work parties.

Spanish immersion: at least one teacher will speak exclusively Spanish to children. Ideally both teachers will speak Spanish.

Our goal is to tap into their sense of wonder about nature, while teaching basic environmental and natural science principles. We promote individual empowerment and group bonding, respect for all living beings, and how to minimize our impact on the earth. Our lesson plans flow organically from what nature presents each day.
