Summary
Naturalist/Nature Center Office Manager
This position serves as Naturalist and Office Manager at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center in Austin, MN. The city of Austin is looking for a highly motivated and passionate individual to fill an open full time-permanent position. This position salary range is $23.54-$33.62/hr. This is a full time (40 hours) non-exempt position. Preferred start date as early as December 1, 2022. Application deadline is Friday September 30, 2022.
Job description:
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Write correspondence, grants, news releases, and participate in social media.
- Assists the public with use of department facilities and rental availability.
- Recruit, schedules, and retains volunteers.
- Assist with school field trips and other nature center programs including teaching and preparation.
- Handles resident animals and performs animal husbandry duties including feeding, cleaning, training, and general care.
- Sets up and assist with online registration for public classes, equipment rental and building rentals.
- Project management and event preparation.
- Provide assistance to the general public by fielding inquiries related to natural resources and any other questions they might have.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experience, and training required.
Education
High school diploma or GED certificate required.
Experience
One (1) year of experience in office administration.

An outstanding candidate will have:
- Two years of experience in a natural resource field.
- Education in Environmental science, biological science, or closely related field.
- Project management experience. Care & handling of exotic animals experience.
- Written/oral communication and customer service experience (Customer facing experience, public speaking, teaching, digital design, advertising, press release, grant writing/reporting).

Compensation Information
