Reporting to the Education Manager at Appleton Farms, the Youth and Schools Program Manager and Camp Director will support Appleton Farms’ mission in two capacities: 1) coordinating and leading youth programs including Appleton’s Field Study (Field Trips), After School, Home School, and Young Learner programs; and 2) overseeing all Appleton Farm Camps (summer youth and school vacation weeks) operations.

Summary

Appleton Farms, established in 1638, is the oldest continuously operating farm in the country. At almost 1000 acres, Appleton is a sustainable farm that grows healthy and delicious food for local families while modeling practices that contribute to a diverse ecological landscape where pollinators, birds, and wildlife thrive alongside our crops and livestock. The farm hosts year-round educational programs and events that foster a sense of place and deep appreciation for local food, farms, history, and nature. Appleton is one of The Trustees' highest visitation properties and an important platform for engaging and introducing people to the agricultural work of the organization. Appleton Farms serves the schools and families of our community with immersive, experiential youth education. We build on the Trustees’ expertise in nature conservation, designed landscapes, regenerative agriculture, and culinary education to create our innovative Nature/Farm-centered and systems-based curriculum.

Reporting to the Education Manager at Appleton Farms, the Youth and Schools Program Manager and Camp Director will support Appleton Farms’ mission in two capacities: 1) coordinating and leading youth programs including Appleton’s Field Study (Field Trips), After School, Home School, and Young Learner programs; and 2) overseeing all Appleton Farm Camps (summer youth and school vacation weeks) operations. We seek an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with a demonstrated passion for place-based education, sustainable agriculture, and local farming, who will bring experience related to environmental education, curriculum planning, summer camp management, and marketing and communications. This position is highly independent and requires someone who is a self-starter with excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

In this role, you will: 

Field Study, School Partnership, & Youth Programs Management

Execute education programs, including but not limited to Field Study programs (School Partnership Programs and field trips), elementary education programs such as Home-School and After-School programs, and preschool programs that are chaperoned.

Work directly with Education Manager to implement and grow Appleton Farms School Partnership program, an intensive year-round program focused on sustainable agriculture and ecological stewardship.

Create, improve, and build comprehensive farm-based curriculum for all youth-based education programs.

Summer Camp Management

Implement vision and goals to lead the largest and most successful summer camp in the Trustees organization.

Oversee camp registration, parent communication, revenue tracking, camp marketing and other camp administrative work.

Work directly with Education Manager to diversify and expand summer and school vacation camp programming.

 

Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in environmental education or other relevant field of study.

5+ years of progressively responsible direct experience in education.

3 years minimum experience in summer camp administration or equivalent experience

Supervisory experience.

Excellent communication skills; demonstrated experience in oral communication, persuasive writing, and training staff.

Demonstrated ability to manage many deadlines, tasks, and relationships.

Background CORI/SORI check required annually.
