Whittemore – Community, Culture & Conservation is seeking an Environmental Educator/Naturalist for the property located at 7 Rockaway Road, Oldwick 08858.

Summary

Under the direction of the Friends of Whittemore Board President, the Environmental Educator/Naturalist will develop, coordinate and conduct environmental education programs serving all ages and interest groups on-site and on outreach. Work mainly weekdays; some nights and Saturdays required. 

 

Duties: 

  • Develop and implement creative environmental education programming and outreach for children and adults of all ages and abilities, from 4 to adulthood; 
  • Make recommendations for materials and resources needed to conduct environmental education programs in a variety of settings; 
  • Create Teaching Kits (including resources, lesson plans, and biofacts) on environmental topics for use with schools, scouts, camps and more;
  • Facilitate professional development workshops and trainings for teachers, scout/community leaders, and volunteers; 
  • Design promotional materials and assist with press materials, reports, and displays for public view; 
  • Assist with planning and executing of special events and other Whittemore programs; 
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the environmental education/natural science field(s); 
  • Exercise supervision over part-time assistants, seasonal employees, and volunteers when required; 
  • Participate in staff meetings and development discussions 
  • Work closely with staff to carry out the WhittemoreCCC boards vision and mission; 
  • Present a positive image to the all facility users and the general public; 
  • Perform other duties, as assigned. 

Requirements: This position requires a bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental science, education, or related field with excellent writing and public speaking skills, as well as teaching experience. Knowledge or familiarity with local environmental issues, flora and fauna, ecosystems, outdoor activities, and education is preferred. At least 2 years’ experience working with the public, especially groups of children, in an educational setting is preferred. Considerable walking and some lifting required. Must have ability to adjust work schedule as required for the efficient operation of facilities and programs. Appointees must possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey. 

Compensation: Hourly Pay $20-25; Must be available weekends, evenings and holidays.
