SMCOE is seeking a dedicated sustainability professional to support environmental literacy and sustainability initiatives throughout San Mateo County schools and districts. The Sustainability Analyst works collaboratively with schools, districts, and community partners to advance sustainable and climate-resilient campuses, practices, and culture; provides technical assistance and coordination of sustainability resources and programs; and supports countywide efforts that promote environmental stewardship and sustainable operations.

Summary

Under direction, performs a variety of duties in support of the San Mateo County Office of Education’s (Office) sustainability initiatives; supports schools and districts to maintain sustainable and climate resilient campuses, practices, and culture; provides technical assistance and coordination between community partners, available resources, and schools/districts; provides assistance to management in areas of expertise; and performs related duties as assigned.

This journey-level classification is responsible for independently performing professional duties in support of environmental literacy and sustainability. Positions at this level exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

  • Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Collects, analyzes, and utilizes data to strengthen sustainability efforts and ensure compliance across schools in San Mateo County and the Office; monitors and evaluates waste management practices, and assists with strategic planning and assessment.
  • Supports efforts to develop, implement, and provide training on county-wide protocols with district partners to promote sustainable operations, facilities, and programs; facilitates, plans, and hosts network meetings with community partners.
  • Provides technical support to districts and schools in developing and implementing sustainability plans; promotes environmental education programs and resources from community partners.

Compensation Information

SALARY DETAILS:

Salary Pay Range: $7,472 - $9,082 Monthly

Length of Work Year: 12 Months; Mon-Fri; 8 Hrs/Day

BENEFITS:

Total Compensation Package: Placement on salary schedule. If a medical plan is selected, the County Office will contribute up to $1,400 per month for single coverage or $1,750 per month for employee plus one or more toward your medical benefits if you enroll in an SMCOE-sponsored CalPERS medical plan, or $300 per month if you waive medical coverage. The employee pays the balance of their health premiums from their gross earnings on a pre-tax basis. If a medical plan is not selected, employees will receive a contribution of $300.00/month toward single coverage for Delta Dental, and Life Insurance. A vision plan (VSP) is also available. Employees pay the worker contribution to the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).

OTHER FRINGE BENEFITS:

Accrue 102 hours of sick leave; 15 paid holidays; 15 paid vacation days; CALPERS Employer Contribution; Work remotely one (1) day every week (applicable after initial 6 months pending supervisor approval); Flexible work schedule depending on position; Commuter Benefit; Tuition Reimbursement;
