Outdoor Guide (Permanent or Substitute)

Spark Montessori is an authentic Montessori school seeking afternoon Outdoor Assistants. This part-time position involves working outdoors with children 1.5-5, in all weather conditions, operating out of a beautiful Chicago city park. Hours are 2-6 with some variation, with the potential for more work if desired.

We are hiring for both substitutes and permanent roles. Substituting is ideal for those seeking flexible hours, while permanent hours offer more stability. Spark is dedicated to nurturing long-term growth for both students and staff. We hire from within, and work with our staff to move them into the roles that best suit their needs and abilities.

Key skills and attributes:

• Passion for outdoor education and nature-based learning.
• Comfortable working outdoors year-round in various weather conditions.
• Must have appropriate gear (warm layers, rain/snow gear)
• Physically able to walk long distances and run when necessary.
• Alignment with Montessori philosophy, mission, and values.
• Experience working with young children, preferably in an outdoor environment
• Adaptability and ability to seamlessly integrate into the program.
• Openness to coaching and feedback from lead guides or administration.
• Reliable, dependable, and committed to the role.

Qualifications:

• Experience in Environmental Education or Early Childhood Education is a plus but not required.
• Must pass a criminal background check.
• Three written character references.
• Medical examination within the last two years.
