The Programs and Communications Manager is responsible for planning a robust calendar of public events and managing communication efforts to attract visitors. This position is also responsible for assisting with our largest fundraiser of the year and working to manage our photo catalogue. This is a full-time, hybrid position, with onsite support at our Woodstock and Elkridge locations at least three times per week. Frequent weekend and evening hours are required to coordinate programs.

Summary

Programs and Communications Manager - Full Time Position (Salary range $55,000 - $57,000)

The Howard County Conservancy is a nonprofit environmental education center with two locations in Woodstock and Elkridge, MD. We help connect more than 40,000 people to nature each year through school programs, summer camp, nature preschool, public programs and our historic Mt. Pleasant Farmstead.

The Programs and Communications Manager is responsible for planning a robust calendar of public events and managing communication efforts to attract visitors. This position is also responsible for assisting with our largest fundraiser of the year and working to manage our photo catalogue. This is a full-time, hybrid position, with onsite support at our Woodstock and Elkridge locations at least three times per week. Frequent weekend and evening hours are required to coordinate programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead planning and implementation of a robust calendar of public programs (30+ per year) and serve as liaison with programs committee
  • Conduct a full range of activities required to market programs and events
  • Utilize social media, e-news, website, online event calendars and promotional materials to create engaging content, support the mission of the organization and promote programs
  • Manage visual documentation, photo resources, and photo barter scheduling
  • Compile monthly newsletter using Constant Contact and our CRM interface
  • Write press releases, create background materials and communicate with media
  • Support marketing and fundraising campaigns, grants and events by coordinating logistics, conducting research and using online auction systems
  • Manage logistics for large annual fundraising events
  • Create online registrations for public events using Wordpress
  • Coordinate event set up and day of management including volunteer coordination.

Other Duties:

  • Participate as an active member of the staff team, staffing programs and Saturday public hours as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communication, design or other related field of study or applicable experience
  • Strong creative writing and editing skills and experience required
  • 2+ years experience in event management and/or marketing
  • A detailed-oriented, self-starter mindset capable of executing an array of tasks
  • An ability to plan, prioritize and coordinate multiple projects and deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a variety of audiences and stakeholders
  • Experience with G-Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Constant Contact and Wordpress desirable
