The Escondido Creek Conservancy is seeking part-time, seasonal Environmental Education Facilitators to support their outdoor and in-classroom environmental education programs during the 2026–2027 school year.

Summary

DUTIES: The Environmental Education Facilitator will work with the Conservancy’s Education Director to support varying Conservancy-run environmental education programs. Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in paid program training
  • Assisting with in-classroom (and/or virtual) lessons at schools throughout North San Diego County
  • Leading groups of students on educational field trips, primarily at the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve and Swenerton Education Center
  • Coordinating on-site programs
  • Optional opportunities to support Land Department initiatives and volunteer events
  • Carrying out other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: This is an entry-level role ideal for individuals with at least one year of experience working with youth and familiarity with environmental education topics. Experience with 3rd through 5th grade is preferred, though familiarity with middle and high school students as well as adults is a plus, as some programs serve older age groups. Applicants must be team-oriented and comfortable working in classrooms, outdoor environments, and virtual settings. A positive attitude and patience with children are essential qualities for success in this role. Reliable transportation is required. All selected candidates must pass a criminal background check. First Aid/CPR certification is required and will be provided by the Conservancy if needed.

Preferred but not required qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, science, conservation, or a related field
  • Familiarity with national and state education standards (NGSS) and inquiry-based learning
  • Conversational proficiency in Spanish

HOURS: The position involves approximately 0–20 hours of work per week from September 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027. The schedule is variable. We are hiring for both Monday–Wednesday positions and Monday–Wednesday positions with additional Friday/Saturday availability. Programs generally take place between 8:00 am–5:30 pm. Staff with Friday/Saturday availability will receive priority consideration. Additional hours may be available depending on funding and program needs.

PAY: Starting at $23/hr.

BENEFITS: Benefits include one floating holiday, the accrual of sick time at a rate of one hour per 30 hours worked, and eligibility to participate in a 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching. Employees receive mileage reimbursement for work-related travel and phone/computer use reimbursement, which varies depending on the role. Staff also have the option to purchase health, dental, and vision insurance at Conservancy rates, though premiums are employee-paid. Additional benefits include access to professional development opportunities and unpaid bereavement leave.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: All applications must be received by Friday, July 17, 2026.
