Spend your school year inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards in the beautiful Santa Ynez Mountains. Join The Outdoor School at Rancho Alegre as a Naturalist and lead outdoor adventures, teach environmental science, and create unforgettable experiences for students in a residential outdoor education setting.

Summary

The Naturalist is responsible for delivering engaging outdoor science education programs for 5th and 6th grade students through curriculum hikes, evening programs, and hands-on activities. Naturalists serve as educators, mentors, and role models while helping create a safe, inclusive, and memorable outdoor learning experience at The Outdoor School at Rancho Alegre.

Program Details

Program Duration: 4 days, 3 nights
Program Location: Santa Barbara, CA
Work Schedule: 35-40 hours per week
Housing: On-site housing provided during season start and end dates

Seasonal Dates:

Fall: September 21 – December 11, 2025
Winter/Spring: January 13 – June 4, 2026
Housing available over winter break
No program during Thanksgiving week

Compensation Information

$16.90 per hour plus housing and meals
