This unique opportunity to co-teach a mixed-age 3rd/4th grade class combines mathematics, nature studies, and experiential education in an integrated, inquiry-based environment. Working as part of a collaborative teaching team, the educator will help children investigate real-world questions, build strong academic foundations, and develop a sense of wonder through daily outdoor learning. This is an opportunity to shape an innovative program that blends academic rigor, hands-on discovery, and relationship-centered learning within a vibrant Jewish community.

Summary

CBI Forest School (www.cbiforestschool.com) is seeking a creative, reflective, and collaborative educator to join our elementary team as a 3rd/4th Grade Math & Nature Studies Teacher. Located in beautiful Charlottesville, Virginia, CBI Forest School is a Jewish nature-based school serving children from 18 months through elementary school. Inspired by Forest School, Reggio Emilia, and experiential education philosophies, we believe children learn best through relationships, inquiry, meaningful work, and deep engagement with the natural world. The Math & Nature Studies Teacher will design engaging learning experiences that help children develop mathematical thinking, scientific curiosity, environmental stewardship, and problem-solving skills through hands-on investigation and outdoor exploration. Position begins August 2026.

Qualifications: 

  • Experience teaching elementary-aged children
  • Strong understanding of mathematics instruction and child development
  • Passion for environmental education, outdoor learning, and experiential education
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Comfort spending significant time outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Familiarity with Jewish education or enthusiasm for learning within a Jewish community
  • College degree in related field

Compensation Information

Salary range: $40,000–$55,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
