WildCare is seeking a dynamic, organized, and nature-loving full-time Nature Education and Camp Manager to join its Education Department in San Rafael, California. In this multi-faceted role, you will champion environmental literacy across eight San Francisco Bay Area counties by leading the mobile "Nature Van" program, managing the operations and logistics of winter, spring, and summer Wildlife Camps, and designing engaging wildlife curricula for Pre-K through 12th-grade students. Key responsibilities include presenting hands-on wildlife education programs, recruiting and mentoring seasonal camp counselors and teen volunteers, securing park permits, and updating educational materials to align with Next Generation Science Standards. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience), possesses strong classroom management skills, has a general knowledge of wildlife ecology, and maintains an excellent driving record (required to operate the Nature Van cargo vehicle).
Summary
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Delivery: Drive the WildCare Nature Van to deliver hands-on wildlife education programs to diverse regional schools and community events.
- Camp Leadership: Recruit, hire, train, and manage seasonal Wildlife Camp Counselor and teen volunteers, act as lead teacher for winter, spring, and summer camps.
- Logistics & Compliance: Manage camp operations, secure park permits, select hike sites, and handle supply inventories.
- Curriculum Design: Develop and update Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) aligned materials and launch an adult lecture series.
Minimum Qualifications (Must Meet All):
- Bachelor’s Degree (or commensurate experience) in a related field.
- Proven experience delivering Pre-K through 6th-grade educational programming.
- Strong classroom/behavior management skills and a general knowledge of wildlife ecology.
- Excellent driving record (required for operating the Nature Van cargo vehicle).
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/bend for extended periods.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience handling/presenting live animals in educational settings.
- Completed coursework in Animal Sciences, Environmental Studies, or Teaching.
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
Compensation Information
This is a full time hourly non-exempt position, which includes medical/dental/vision benefits, 401K plan, and generous vacation, sick and holiday pay. Compensation range is $27-$32 per hour, depending on experience. Additional compensation is available for bilingual candidates (English and Spanish). Ideal start date July, 2026.
