Summary

Mountain Village Charter School — Head of School
Plymouth, NH · $85,000–$105,000 · Full-Time · Start: August 1, 2026

About MVCS
Mountain Village Charter School is a public, tuition-free, nature-based Montessori school serving approximately 100 students in grades 1–8 in Plymouth, New Hampshire. Founded in 2012, MVCS uses its 38-acre campus — working forest, marsh, field, and river — not as a backdrop to the curriculum, but as the curriculum itself.

Our mission: to engage students in experiences that integrate natural environments with Montessori philosophy, igniting achievement in academic, social-emotional, and physical development.

We are entering an exciting period of transition — strategic realignment, a new campus, and a search for the right leader to carry us forward.

The Opportunity
The Head of School reports directly to the Board of Trustees and leads all aspects of the school: instruction, culture, operations, compliance, and community. You will be supported by an experienced Dean of Students / Director of Operations who carries significant day-to-day operational responsibility.

The central leadership challenge is building genuine Montessori instructional capacity across a caring, student-focused faculty. Equally important: active, strategic enrollment management — enrollment drives school revenue and is a core function of this role.

Key Responsibilities
    •    Lead the school toward full nature-based Montessori fidelity in alignment with the Board-approved Strategic Plan
    •    Build instructional capacity through coaching, observation, professional development, and hiring
    •    Manage enrollment actively and strategically — outreach, retention, and sending district relationships
    •    Ensure compliance with NH DOE requirements, charter obligations, IDEA, and Section 504
    •    Manage scheduling, staffing, and budget
    •    Partner with the Board of Trustees on strategy, mission fidelity, and organizational development
    •    Build and maintain strong relationships with families, sending districts, and the broader community
    •    Support transition to and development of MVCS’s new campus

Qualifications
Required
    •    Advanced degree in education or leadership, or equivalent experience
    •    3–5 years of school leadership experience
    •    Successful classroom teaching experience (minimum 3 years strongly preferred)
    •    Montessori knowledge and experience — specifically in a public school context — or a demonstrated commitment to completing foundational Montessori training within year one
    •    Working knowledge of IDEA and Section 504
    •    Strong organizational and operational skills; demonstrated ability to coach and develop teachers
Strongly Preferred
    •    Montessori experience in a public school setting
    •    Charter school or public education leadership experience
    •    Experience with mission realignment or school culture change
    •    Familiarity with nature-based or place-based education
    •    Nonprofit leadership or fundraising experience

Compensation & Benefits
    •    Salary: $85,000–$105,000, commensurate with experience
    •    Health stipend: $5,000 annually
    •    Paid leave: 15 vacation, 6 personal, 10 sick days
    •    Free after-school enrollment for employee’s children
    •    Retirement plan and professional development support
