Are you passionate about conservation and interested in gaining hands-on experience with exhibit curation? Join the Escondido Creek Conservancy as an Exhibit Development Intern! Help us create engaging new exhibits for the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve’s Interpretive Center.

Summary

DUTIES: The Digital Cataloging and Exhibit Development Intern will work closely with Conservancy Education Staff and EFRR Rangers during their time. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Digitally catalog past Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve's Interpretive Center Exhibits.
  • Organize the physical exhibits into storage.
  • Assist in the creation of a new nature-based exhibit.
  • Collaborate with Conservancy Education Staff and EFRR Rangers to ensure accurate and comprehensive cataloging.
  • Participate in meetings and planning sessions as required.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: This internship is suitable for students or individuals looking to gain experience in conservation, education, or a related field who are age 18 or older. Ideal candidates will have:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with digital cataloging tools and techniques.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Interest in environmental conservation and education.
  • Well-versed in Canva or have experience in graphic design.
  • Basic knowledge of Southern California ecology and species is helpful but not required.
  • Experience in museum or exhibit curation is highly desirable and would be beneficial for the role but not required.

LOGISTICS: This internship requires an average of 4 hours per week, with approximately 75% remote and 25% in-person work scheduled flexibly. Work will generally take place Monday through Friday, with no weekend commitments.

The internship will run from June through September 2026, with an invitation to set up and attend the exhibit opening in January 2027. The internship may be extended if needed or upon request.

Compensation Information

This position includes a $500 nominal stipend, inclusive of mileage reimbursement at the current California rate, but is otherwise unpaid. We will also provide letters of recommendation, serve as professional references, and verify community service hours.
