Idaho Community‑Engaged Resilience for Energy‑Water Systems (I‑CREWS)

Motivated master’s‑level students interested in community‑engaged research and education are invited to apply for a funded research assistantship with a transdisciplinary team as part of the National Science Foundation (NSF) EPSCoR Track‑1 award, Idaho Community‑Engaged Resilience for Energy‑Water Systems (I‑CREWS).

Summary

This position offers the opportunity to gain meaningful professional experience while contributing to collaborative, place‑based work that supports environmental stewardship, resilience, and energy‑water systems across Idaho. Work will take place in partnership with Tribal nations, rural communities, and academic collaborators, with an emphasis on respectful engagement and applied learning.

Focus areas include:

■ Community‑engaged education and research 
■ Energy‑water systems and resilience 
■ Environmental stewardship and sustainability 
■ Local and Indigenous knowledges 
■ Governance, decision‑making, and social systems 
■ Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration

The research assistant will work closely with University of Idaho faculty as part of the Education and Workforce Development component of the I‑CREWS project, assisting in the creation of community‑engaged courses aligned with the needs and interests of Tribal nations and rural communities.

This position is based within the Environmental Education and Science Communication graduate program at the University of Idaho McCall Field Campus.

Students from all academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Applicants with experience collaborating with Tribal Nations or working in community‑based contexts are especially encouraged. 

Position details: 

  • Start date: Summer or Fall 2026 

  • Funding: One year of fulltime RA support (~$18,000 stipend) 

  • Benefits: Tuition waiver and travel support
