At Fun on the Farm, we combine outdoor education, arts and crafts, games, and practical gardening experience to provide kids with a fun, active and engaging summer of learning from the land.
Summary
Fun on the Farm serves youth ages 6–13 and is held Monday–Thursday from June 29–August 27. The Lead Counselor will be responsible for running daily program activities, ensuring that every day of the program is exciting, safe, and organized. This position is part-time (Mon–Thurs, about 32 hours per week) and seasonal, beginning the week of June 22 with a staff training and concluding on the last day of the program, August 27 (1–3 extra hours per week are available but not required).
The Lead Counselor will report to and work closely with the Education Coordinator to oversee all day-to-day aspects of the Fun on the Farm program. Responsibilities include:
- Set-up and implementation of the summer program’s daily schedule
- Enthusiastic facilitation of lessons, activities, and games to promote engagement
- Maintenance of the program’s raised vegetable beds and leading students in weekly harvests
- Review of safety rules with students and enforcement of safety protocols
- Appropriate behavior management and intervention
- Parental interaction at drop-off and pick-up times
- Maintenance and organization of educational supplies
- Daily clean-up to return the farm environment to its pre-activity status
- Collaboration with farm staff and guest educators
- Supervision of other Counselors and Counselors in Training
The ideal individual will possess these qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age by the start date (younger applicants are encouraged to apply for the Counselor position)
- Able to problem solve and think creatively on the fly
- Outgoing, personable, and able to effectively engage with young people
- Has excellent time management and organizational skills
- Experience in farming, gardening, ecology and/or environmental education is a plus
- Physical requirements include ability to lift 50 pounds
- Able to navigate trails and uneven surfaces, and to work outside in any weather
- Has reliable transportation
- Is certified in CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain the certification
- Able to show proof of COVID vaccination at start date
- Must pass a CORI/SORI and Federal background check

Compensation Information
Hourly wage for this position is $17–$20, depending on experience.
