Summary
The Public Programs Coordinator is responsible for coordinating children and family programs, such as summer day camp, weekend programs, and family special events. This role also includes teaching onsite school programs, virtual field trips, and public programs. The role supports the Education Department’s administration through guest coordination, scheduling, budget and metric tracking, ordering and inventory management, and guest communications. While the Public Program Coordinator is not responsible for direct supervision of other education staff members, the position requires informal leadership and directed training and coaching of staff related to the implementation of their programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinate the logistical and instructional elements of on-site public programs, including camps (Summer Day Camp and Winter Day Camp), weekend programs, and events
- Work with management to plan strategies that can be used to continually evaluate and update programs. This may include adapting, updating, and creating new education materials to meet department goals.
- Maintain an on-site five-day work schedule, Sunday- Thursday, with varying start times to meet program operational needs.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants through protocols, communication with parents, and creative solutions.
- Work with Membership, Guest Support Center, Web team, and others to ensure public programs are available for sale on time.
- Maintain Guest Support Center booking protocols for camp and weekend programs and communicate with the Web Team to make sure website content on programs and booking is clear, accurate, and accessible.
- Facilitate public and school programs held on-site, virtually, and in the community.
- Assist in the onboarding and training of new education staff members implementing public programs.
- Support department operations such as ordering and inventory, reporting metrics, reviewing monthly staff schedule drafts, tracking spending, fielding guest questions, and providing floor interpretation and station coverage.
- Work with management to consider new revenue-generating opportunities within public programs.
- Serve as the point person for the department (Ed-1) by answering radio calls, phone calls, and ensuring coverage on both the interpretation and volunteer schedules.
- Train and serve as a resource for volunteers and interns.
- Participate in Education and Aquarium-wide staff meetings, training, and professional development to stay current on Education Department goals, ocean sciences information, and trends in education.

Compensation Information
Full Time, Eligible for Benefits- $31.50 per hour.
