The Kellogg Bird Sanctuary is seeking enthusiastic team members to help care for waterfowl, upland gamebirds, and birds of prey. Gain hands-on experience with feeding, habitat cleaning, enrichment, safe handling, veterinary support, and even raptor training. This role also includes guest interaction—answering questions, ensuring safety, assisting with programs, and helping create social media content. Summary

Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

Animal Care
Employee will gain husbandry experience of waterfowl, upland game-bird, and birds of prey.  These duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Feed and monitor flock health and welfare
  • Daily cleaning of animal habitats and holding areas
  • Animal enrichment
  • Proper capture and handling techniques
  • Veterinary procedures and exams
  • Habitat maintenance & renovation
  • Raptor training & glove handling animal ambassadors

 

Visitor Interaction and Public Engagement
Employee will interact with guests during daily scheduled hours and special events.

  • Monitors guests to ensure animal and human safety and protection of Sanctuary property
  • Responds to guest questions on the phone and in person
  • Creating content and posting to social media
  • Assists in educational programming, store coverage and cash register use as needed and when schedule allows

Desired Qualifications

  • Studies and/or previous experience including wildlife biology, ecology, biology, zoology, animal science, natural sciences, or related field.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Good communication skills, computer skills desirable
