The Virginia Zoo’s Education Department seeks enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to facilitate the Zoo’s Summer Safar Camp program hosted at the Virginia Zoo! The Virginia Zoo’s Summer Safari Camp Instructors provide campers with a fun, safe, and educational in-person camp experience. Instructors work collaboratively to facilitate preplanned curriculum that includes STEM activities, hikes around the zoo, and behind the scenes experiences.

Summary

This is a non-exempt, seasonal position. Up to 40 hours/week Monday - Friday from 8 AM- 4:30 PM.

The full camp season is 9 weeks

  • Training Week: June 15 - 19 *****
  • Camps: June 22 - August 21 ******

We will consider individuals who cannot work the entire season, but entire training week is mandatory.

Camp grade levels range from K - 8th Grade.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct all Summer Safari children’s day camps using the Zoo’s pre-written curriculum.
  • Attend training and prepare for all camp programs including cleaning education spaces, preparing materials, reviewing lesson plans, and providing feedback on lesson plans.
  • Work in cooperation with full-time and part-time Zoo staff in Education and other departments
  • Contribute professionally to a collaborative, innovative, and energetic work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
