Camp McDowell is hiring for a full time Camp Nurse! Join us in beautiful northeast Alabama where we serve educational school groups, summer camps, and retreats. Compensation includes housing and full benefits! Our 1,140 acre property is surrounded by forest, creeks, canyons, and more. Plus, you'll work closely with our Farm School, getting fresh produce, eggs, and lots of goat love!

Summary

The Bethany Village Nurse is responsible for maintaining the health and safety of the students, chaperones, teachers and camp staff for the McDowell Farm School (MFS). Additionally, they will act as Camp’s nurse liaison for Summer Camps at Bethany Village, including Special Session, Bethany’s Kids, Youth Folk Camp, and Unbound. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for working with children in an outdoor setting. 

For MFS, the work week begins at 8:00 AM on Mondays and ends at 1:00 on Friday. The season runs in the spring from the last two weeks in February to the last week of May each year. The fall season runs from the middle of August until the third week of November each year. 

For Special Session and Bethany’s kids, the programs take place during the summer; Nurse will also be expected to assist with 1-2 sessions of additional programming 

Qualifications: 

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) 

  • Ability to successfully complete a background check 

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in nursing, preferably in pediatric or camp settings CPR/ First-Aid certified 

  • Strong clinical skills, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of common camp-related health issues 

  • Demonstrate a respect and affinity for children 

  • Desire to work and be a member of a friendly and supportive team 

  • Demonstrate maturity, initiative, enthusiasm, sense of humor, flexibility, and a team spirit Demonstrate professionalism in appearance and behavior 

  • Demonstrate superb organizational skills and attention to detail 

  • Training in Wilderness First Aid a plus

Compensation Information

  • Salary range between $40,000-45,000 

  • Onsite housing available (Must be on site during On-Call nights)
