Department: Science and Conservation 

Location: Holden Arboretum (Kirtland, OH) or USFS Office (Delaware, OH) 

Status: Full-time, Exempt, Grant-Funded (Limited Term) 

 

About the Role 

The Great Lakes Basin Forest Health Collaborative seeks a Forest Health Coordinator to support resistance-breeding programs for ash, elm, hemlock, and beech. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • - Support phases of resistance breeding, including identifying resistant trees and propagation.
  • - Build and coordinate Regional Breeding Networks across partners.
  • - Lead trainings, workshops, and outreach.
  • - Maintain GLBFHC program database.
  • - Assist with grant writing and funding identification.
  • - Participate in planning, planting, monitoring, and evaluation of plantings.
  • - Engage in communication efforts including newsletters and presentations. 

 

Required Experience 

  • - Minimum 5 years in forest health (Master's substitutes 2 years; PhD substitutes 5).
  • - Background in genetics, silviculture, horticulture, plant breeding, or related fields.
  • - Strong communication and collaboration skills. 

 

Education 

  • - Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree preferred. 

 

Working Conditions 

  • - Based in Ohio with regional travel; fieldwork in rural and urban forests.
