Summary
Watershed Friends’ Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) program utilizes plant surveys to detect invasive species early and methodically, to better coordinate rapid response and management efforts. The Plant Survey Coordinator works with the Director of Conservation and Program Manager to plan surveys of uninfested and infested waterbodies in the Cobbosseecontee Watershed. This coordinator will co-lead a team of 4 individuals, assist with training, and maintain a positive attitude and team spirit. The coordinator can expect to start work in May and end in September, with possible extended work going into November, schedule permitting. Some flexibility is available for the right candidate. On-the-job training provided.
Watershed Friends is seeking a responsible, organized, and team-oriented person to fill the position of Plant Survey Coordinator at $18.50/hour for approximately 30 to 40 hours/week.
Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly with the public.
- Attention to detail in filling out data forms, creating reports, and following plant survey plans.
- Ability to lead a group positively, be a good role model, and encourage a good work ethic.
- Works with the Director of Conservation and Program Manager to cover priority survey locations and assist with team training.
- Available from May to September, additional work may be available into November.
- Must have: a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and the ability to pass a background check.
Responsibilities include:
- Communicating daily with the Director and Program Manager in scheduling surveys, planning activities, and coordinating the transportation of the team to each launch location.
- Representing Watershed Friends in a positive and friendly manner at all times.
- Submitting survey data and helping to promote the work done by the team.
- Overseeing care and maintenance of work equipment, such as kayaks, life vests, Aquascopes, etc.
- Handling and operating company vehicles and motorized vessels.
- Fulfilling other duties as assigned to further the mission of Watershed Friends.
Additional skills:
- Familiarity with paddle craft and safe practices on water.
- Familiarity with botany and/or plant identification, aquatic species a bonus.
- High energy level with a positive attitude.
- A willingness to learn quickly and lead by example.
- Knowledge of environmental issues, with a focus on watershed ecology and invasive species.
- Strongly preferred: experience with driving and handling motorized watercraft and trailers safely.
- SCUBA certification a plus.
