Who we are
Outdoor Classroom is the largest outdoor education program in the Northeast, dedicated to experiential education with a focus on science, nature, outdoor living skills, and social-emotional learning. We offer transformative programming for thousands of elementary and middle school students annually in the northeastern United States.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Program Coordinator in contacting schools and creating schedules
- Book staff accommodations when necessary
- Assisting in staff training by helping create the training schedule, teaching classes, and leading training sessions
- Oversee the organization and maintenance of program supplies
- Support instructors, and giving feedback when appropriate
- Observe instructors teach when necessary
- Help with curriculum enhancements and improvements
- Help with weekly staff assignments
- Assist in other administrative duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator
- Act as lead instructor when assigned
- Teach as needed based on bookings and if instructors are sick
- Must live in provided housing during the program season
Work schedule
Monday through Friday each week of the spring season with some travel on Sundays. The APC will help the PC with staff training starting on April 27, and the season ends on June 5.
Salary & benefits
The APC is paid $735 per week. Shared accommodation is provided. (Service animals only. Sorry, no ESAs.) Mileage reimbursement with carpooling perks for work-related travel. Hotels, Airbnb, or rooms at Outdoor Classroom's residential sites are arranged when working with schools located far from your home base.
Qualifications
You must have experience working with elementary and middle school students, preferably in an educational or outdoor setting. We are looking for candidates who have some leadership or staff management experience. The APC must possess a reliable vehicle for traveling to schools and parks throughout New England and eastern New York. A Bachelor's degree is preferred, but not required.
