The Conservation Education Student Intern will support our organization's mission by improving our digital organization, assisting in the development of engaging educational materials and researching strategic partnership opportunities. This position is ideal for students seeking practical experience in environmental education, administration and natural resource management.
Internships are 10 weeks long. Lodging and meals are the responsibility of the intern. ****Location of internship will be located in either College Station or San Antonio****

Summary

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the creation and design of new, targeted conservation education programs and supporting materials specifically for K–12 audiences.
  • Support local event and program opportunities for the community, which includes participating in programs for K–12 audiences, public events, career days and other local engagement opportunities.
  • Identify and research potential school and organizational partnership opportunities within the local community and state-wide.
  • Assist in the organization, cataloging and maintenance of existing online database to improve internal efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Required Education: Must be currently enrolled at an accredited college/university that have completed their junior year of college up to second-year post-graduates, in a course of study relevant to the mission of the agency: Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Education or closely related field.
  • Preferred Education: Completion of at least two (2) years of coursework toward relevant degree.
  • Required Experience: Previous experience (volunteer, academic or professional) in organizing or leading small educational groups or activities (student clubs, tutoring, summer camp counselor, K–12 assistance, etc.). Experience developing lesson plans, activities or materials for children and adults.
  • Preferred Experience: Demonstrated ability in public speaking or presentation delivery to small audiences. Prior experience specifically in outdoor education or conservation program delivery.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Required Knowledge: Proficiency in MS Office Suite required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Proficiency or strong familiarity with basic design software, such as Canva, for creating flyers and activity sheets.
  • Preferred Knowledge: State educational standards (TEKS). Knowledge of online file storage systems (SharePoint, Google Drive, etc.).
  • Required Skills: Good oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational skill and detail-oriented.
  • Required Abilities: Work both independently and with a team. Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Licenses, Certificates or Registrations:

  • Required: Valid State of Texas Drivers license or ability to obtain one within 30 days.
  • Preferred: Certification in environmental education programs such as Project Learning Tree, Project WILD, Project WET, etc.
