Summary
Spring & Summer Environmental Educator
The mission of Tin Mountain Conservation Center is to promote an appreciation of the natural world among children, adults, and families and to demonstrate responsible stewardship of natural resources.
Overview: Tin Mountain Conservation Center seeks to fill a seasonal environmental education position starting in April and ending in mid-August. This position is split between our science-education school programs and transitions to our environmental OR adventure camp sessions in the summer.
School Programs Summary: Works closely with TMCC Education team to develop, prepare, and execute high quality environmental education programs for school programs serving students in K-12. School programs take place in both classrooms and on public lands throughout northern NH and the White Mountain National Forest.
Camp Summary: Tin Mountain’s Summer Camps combine environmental science with hikes, exploration, and games. This position may be placed within TMCC’s Day Camp programs OR in TMCC’s Adventure Camp programs depending on experience and applicant interest. Day camps take place at TMCC locations throughout the region for campers between 5 to 12 years old, Monday through Friday, plus one overnight during some sessions. Adventure camps serve participants in age from 10-16, Monday through Friday, and may include multiple overnights.
Specific Duties Include:
- Design and teach grade appropriate standards-based lessons for K-12 students in the classroom and outdoors. Prepare and lead age appropriate lessons, games, and crafts for camp
- Represent TMCC’s organizational mission when interacting with the public and school groups.
- Assist with program logistics, including pre-visit communication, development of props and materials, curriculum development, and maintenance of facilities and teaching supplies.
- Participate in summer camp staff training in June
- For Day Camps: Co-supervise up to 15 campers at camp locations across the region.
- For Adventure Camps: Co-lead hiking, backpacking, and paddling trips employing technical and soft skills in backcountry settings and over uneven terrain.
- Transport children for swimming and/or field trips (in Tin Mountain vehicles)
- Maintain medical records and complete incident reports when necessary.
Qualification/Skills:
- Environmental education, classroom teaching, or summer camp experience
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification, WFA for Adventure Camps
- A current driver’s license
- Water safety training a plus but not required
Reports to: Education Director
Pay Range: $15-16/hour with housing included. Living stipend available if housing is waived.
