Summary

The Education Assistant position works with the guidance of SFWA’s Education Programs Manager, as well as the Director of Education, and SFWA staff to support the 5th grade My Water, My Watershed (MWMW) program. Priorities include facilitating and leading MWMW field trips, classroom visits, and other educational program support with potential to grow into a year-round position.

The Santa Fe Watershed Association is a non-profit organization that works to build a thriving, resilient Santa Fe River Watershed through collaboration, stewardship, and education that inspires us all to care for our land, water, and each other. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Using MWMW program curriculum, facilitate one hour pre- and post-classroom visits for MWMW participating classes
  • Work with volunteers in a professional and respectful way to carry out the MWMW program
  • Facilitate field trip days that includes briefing volunteers and parent chaperones, communicating with teachers and transportation, and leading students in exploring the Upper Santa Fe Watershed using MWMW program curriculum
  • Compile data from pre and post student assessments and assist with end of year reporting
  • Maintain program supplies and equipment as directed by the Education Manager
  • Support the Education Programs Manager where appropriate
  • Ongoing miscellaneous organization tasks to support the mission of SFWA 

Skills and Requirements 

  • Passion for learning, sharing knowledge, and collaboration
  • Classroom management skills
  • Comfort and ability to adapt while teaching in an outdoor environment in a variety of conditions
  • Excellent communication, organizational skills, and calendar management
  • Ability to lead adult volunteers
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required
  • Comfort using computers, Microsoft Office, Teams, and other standard technology
  • Ability to work flexible hours Monday through Friday
  • Must have own transportation and pass a background check 

Work Environment
This position is primarily in-person, at the field trip site or in classrooms. Collaborative, supportive, and equity-minded work culture.  

Compensation Information

$22/hour | 20-25 hours/week anticipated start date March 2nd through June 15th| Based in Santa Fe, NM
