Summary
We are seeking imaginative, dependable educators to join Brave Nature School as Camp Playworkers for our 2026 seasonal pop-up camps, immersive outdoor learning experiences serving mixed-age groups of young children (primarily ages 3–7). Camp Playworkers bridge our Nests and Gardens approaches by supporting child-led exploration, facilitating process-based art, guiding seasonal storytelling and folklore, and offering simple wilderness identification such as plant and track ID.
Camp Playworkers help co-construct a vibrant, consent-centered learning community with children, families, and BNS staff. Ideal candidates bring experience with outdoor/emergent learning, playwork or similar child-led philosophies, and strong creative leadership with both children and adults.
Individuals exploring future roles in Gardens may use Camps as a paid trial period, and qualified Nests Playworkers are encouraged to take on this role as an additional seasonal opportunity.
Schedule
• February Recess Camp 2026: Monday, February 16 – Tuesday, February 17, 2026
2-day pop-up: folklore, winter storytelling, collaborative making
• Spring Recess Camp 2026: Monday, April 13 – Friday, April 17, 2026
5-day spring camp, theme TBD
• Summer Day Camp 2026: Monday, July 6 – Friday, August 7, 2026
Weeklong, full-day camps running across five consecutive weeks
• Cohort size: 12-15 children, supported by one lead and 1-2 playworkers
• Additional paid time allocated for planning, set-up, clean-up, documentation, and post-camp reflection
• Opportunities to support future Nests and Gardens programming depending on interest and mutual fit
We Seek Individuals Who:
• Have experience in early childhood education, outdoor education, summer camps, playwork, emergent learning, or related creative/community-based roles
• Are comfortable leading process art, collaborative projects, puppetry, respectful nature crafts, and other creative making
• Enjoy guiding storytelling, seasonal folklore, improvisation, or child-led narrative play
• Have curiosity about (or experience with) wilderness identification, such as plants, tracks, trees, and sensory mapping
• Can embrace play as a foundation for learning and community-building
• Are committed to anti-racist, anti-bias, and consent-based education
• Have the physical ability and willingness to work outdoors in all weather
• Bring patience, curiosity, and creativity to mixed-age, child-led environments
• Are willing to learn or deepen skills in conflict transformation and restorative practices
• Have legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Strongly Desired
• Bilingual (Spanish/English or another language)
• We value diverse lived experiences and strongly encourage applications from BIPOC and LGBTQ+ educators.
