Summary

Seasonal Assistant Camp Director – Summer Day Camp at Buhl Park

Position Type: Seasonal (7 weeks of camp full-time in June and July, approx 3 weeks in total part-time training before camp and wrap-up in August)
Schedule: During camp, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:00 PM. Flexible schedule before and after camp.
Location: Buhl Park, Hermitage, PA

About the Position:

Buhl Park’s Summer Day Camp is looking for a dynamic, energetic, and organized Assistant Camp Director to help ensure a safe, engaging, and memorable camp experience for our campers and staff. Working closely with the Camp Directors, this position plays a key role in the daily operation of camp, supporting staff, guiding campers, addressing issues with parents, and helping everything run smoothly across our three shelter locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Camp Directors in managing the daily schedule, activities, and transitions between shelters.
  • Serve as a point of contact for camp counselors throughout the day, providing guidance and support, especially when handling challenging camper behaviors.
  • Supervise and mentor seasonal camp staff to promote teamwork, professionalism, and a positive camp environment.
  • Lead and participate in group games, activities, and special events.
  • Help maintain a fun, safe, and inclusive atmosphere for all campers.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, campers, and parents as needed.
  • Step in where needed, whether that’s lending a hand with setup, helping lead a nature hike, or keeping spirits high on a rainy day!

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with children in a camp, recreation, or educational setting, with at least 1 year in a leadership, advisory, or supervisory role.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing situations.
  • Enthusiasm for outdoor activities and creating a positive, engaging camp culture.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before camp begins).
  • PA Criminal History Background Check, PA Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Clearance
