the Education and Interpretation team. The Education Associate must enjoy working with kids of all ages, love
sharing their passion for science and the environment, and be able to work both individually and as part of a
team. The Education Associate is primarily responsible for teaching education programs.
Summary
Job Title: Education Associate (part-time)
Department: Education and Interpretation
Reports to: Education Coordinator
Typical shift hours: 9:15am-12pm or 9:15am-2:30pm
Responsibilities As an Education Associate (part-time) you will:
• Facilitate guided education programs to groups including schools, daycares, homeschool families, scouts, and adults
• Lead virtual education programs through video conference technology like Zoom
• Interpret galleries and exhibits for guests through engaging conversations about animals, conservation, and Aquarium operations
• Promote Aquarium initiatives at on-site and off-site outreach through interactive tabling, educational activities, and crafts
• Assist with program preparation, set up, and clean up
• Develop inquiry-based interpretation techniques
• Grow classroom management skills for program facilitation
• Co-develop programs with the education team for new curriculum and events
• Maintain, organize, and update education program supplies
• Other duties as assigned by Education Coordinator or Director of Education and Interpretation
Position Requirements
• Ability to work with people with a diverse variety of abilities and backgrounds
• Excitement for working with students
• Passion for animals and the environment
• Comfort speaking to both small groups and large audiences
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work weekday mornings and early afternoons, with occasional late afternoons and weekends as assigned • Punctual and reliable
• Prior work with students in a job, camp, or similar experience is a plus
• Completed coursework in biology, environmental science, education, or similar field is a plus
• Must pass a background screening
Compensation Information
Starting hourly wage: $11.00 (up to 27 hours per week, typically 12-20 hours per week)
