Interpretive Program Coordinator

As the Interpretive Program Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing the daily and seasonal operations of our visitor programs. This includes coordinating guided tours, school field trips, special on-site events, VIP visits, and outreach activities. You will oversee opening and closing procedures for our exhibits and interpretive areas, ensuring a smooth and engaging experience for all visitors.

This position will lead the recruitment, supervision, and professional development of our Conservation Education Department (CED) interns and volunteer naturalists. Mentorship is a key part of this role, as you will guide these team members in delivering creative, informative, and mission-aligned programs for diverse audiences.

In this role, you'll also design and implement engaging interpretive programs such as tours, presentations, and educational experiences that enhance understanding of cranes, their habitats, and the conservation challenges they face.

Supporting the development of interpretive media, including exhibit text, brochures, video scripts, and marketing materials are also areas that can fall under your responsibilities. You will work closely with Site Facilities staff to maintain visitor areas and coordinate emergency drills and seasonal transitions. Budget management support for the visitor program and volunteer activities can also be part of your administrative duties.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in environmental interpretation, environmental education or studies, natural sciences, biology, education, or a closely related field, along with a minimum of two years of experience in environmental or educational programming. They will have a proven background in developing, leading, evaluating, and implementing interpretive programs in informal science, conservation, or natural history settings. Strong leadership skills are essential, as this role requires experience guiding a diverse team-training and mentoring staff or volunteers, assigning and overseeing work, providing constructive feedback, and addressing performance or personnel issues effectively. Proficiency in basic Microsoft Word applications, email, internet tools, and design software such as Corel, Draw, Illustrator, or Photoshop is a bonus. A valid state driver's license and a clean driving record are also required for this position.
