We are seeking a dynamic Education Director with a strong background in both teaching and science to help us meet the evolving needs of our community. This position is responsible for the oversight of program personnel as well as the implementation and delivery of all of FHHF's education programs. Holly Hill Farm is a small organic farm located in Cohasset, Massachusetts. The farm grows certified organic vegetables, flowers, and herbs for the local community on approximately 5.25 acres of land using sustainable, regenerative practices.

As a small nonprofit, we value team members who are flexible, collaborative, and excited to take on a variety of roles in dynamic settings. This position is responsible for the oversight of program personnel as well as the implementation and delivery of all of FHHF's education programs. An ideal candidate would come from a background in either formal or non-formal education to help FHHF continue to grow and improve hands-on environmental education experiences. 

In 2002, the nonprofit Friends of Holly Hill Farm (FHHF) was created to operate the farm and its community and educational programming. The mission of FHHF is to provide healthy, organically grown food for the local community and to foster good stewardship of the land by educating all ages about the practices of conservation and sustainable farming in a welcoming environment. In 2024, we reached over 20,000 school children on the South Shore through programming in over 20 schools, field trips, and seasonal programs on the farm. Programs focus on agriculture, sustainability, health, ecosystems, and a wide variety of other topics in a hands-on STEAM approach. 
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee, manage, and implement all education programs to meet established goals
  • Supervise staff, interns, and volunteers, leading to the team’s success
  • Facilitate educational programming and manage preparations needed in advance of programs
  • Develop, refine, and enhance systems for programs to lead to growth of program impact and reach
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with school contacts and organization partners
  • Manage budgets and maintain supply inventories needed for educational programs
  • Facilitate the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and scheduling process for staff and interns
  • Identify and implement program improvement opportunities on a regular basis
  • Develop diverse programs meeting child, school, adult, and community needs
  • Develop and write STEAM/farm/outdoor-based education curriculum
  • Provide consistency in all programs and all settings
  • Assure Diversity and Equity in all aspects of programs
     

Additional Responsibilities

  • Serves as a resource to the general public and farming community, responding to visitors, board members, and shoppers
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director in the long-range planning for the farm. Make
    operational recommendations to the Executive Director and FHHF Board
  • Assume administrative and operational responsibilities for the farm in the absence of the
    Executive Director.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Recommended Qualifications: 

  • Experience (5+ years) in education, nonprofit (or comparable) management
  • A strategic leader who is a clear communicator with strong oral and written communication skills
  • Capable of working effectively with all staff
  • Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders
  • Flexible, organized, collegial, and an innovative problem solver
  • Applicants must have practical experience working with and educating youth.

Additional Qualifications

  • First Aid certified preferred
  • Experience with outdoor education working with children pre-K through high school
  • Interest and experience in organic farming, gardening, the environment, and other sustainable and regenerative practices preferred
  • Ability to comfortably speak in front of large groups of people (especially young children)
  • Comfortable working with farm animals
  • Ability to walk and be on foot for up to 3 hours
  • Good organizational skills
  • Must pass CORI/SORI check

Compensation Information

Job Status: Full-time exempt Salaried position is an average of 40 hours a week (hours do change seasonally and can go up to 45+ hours during the summer season) 

Reports To: Executive Director 

Salary: $65,000-$75,000  annually, depending on experience and qualifications
