Summary
We believe that experiencing the beauty of our region leads to healthier, happier lives. By protecting incredible places and ensuring appropriate access, we enhance the benefits of conserved lands for our communities. Our vibrant education program engages public and private (K-12) schools, prioritizing outdoor classrooms in nature preserves, working forest reserves, and assisting projects. We also offer field trips for seniors, adults, and families. We seek a Director who is passionate, driven, and innovative— someone eager to elevate and expand our programs. This individual embodies our program values: Fostering Nature Appreciation: Illuminating the wonders of the natural world to cultivate a deeper appreciation for it. Inspiring Nature Engagement: Creatively and passionately helping people explore and connect with the outdoors. Community Commitment: Creating meaningful educational opportunities that benefit and enrich our community. Non-Advocacy Approach: Providing educational experiences without taking positions on environmental issues such as mineral extraction, climate change, or pollution. Rather than advocating, we focus on showcasing the beauty and wonder of northern Michigan, believing that appreciation and understanding lead to informed, responsible decision-making. Collaboration & Communication: Actively working with other departments and partners to align efforts and maximize impact.
