The Escondido Creek Conservancy is seeking a part-time Education & Outreach Intern for summer 2025. This internship offers hands-on experience in curriculum development, outreach, content creation, and event planning while supporting the Conservancy’s environmental education programs. The intern will collaborate with to update curriculum, assist with social media content, and help organize and attend educational events. The internship runs from June to August (10 hours per week).

POSITION DESCRIPTION – Education & Outreach Intern

The Escondido Creek Conservancy is seeking a part-time, summer Education & Outreach Intern to support environmental education and outreach initiatives. This internship offers hands-on experience in curriculum development, outreach, content creation, event planning, and organizational tools to enhance program efficiency.

 

ABOUT THE CONSERVANCY

The Escondido Creek Conservancy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and restoring the Escondido Creek watershed in San Diego County. In addition to conservation efforts, the Conservancy provides environmental education programs at Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve, Mountain Meadow Preserve's Outdoor Classroom, and local schools, serving students from elementary through high school.

 

INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

The intern will work closely with the Education Director and outreach team to:

  • Assist with organizing and improving office tools for program efficiency.
  • Support curriculum development for environmental education programs.
  • Help with outreach efforts, including content creation for social media and newsletters.
  • Capture and edit video content (a plus).
  • Assist in planning, preparing, and attending educational events and programs.
  • Perform other related tasks as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Interest in environmental education, conservation, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive).
  • Experience with social media management and content creation.
  • Familiarity with Canva and basic graphic design.
  • Video creation and editing experience (preferred).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Reliable transportation for in-person workdays.

 

INTERNSHIP DETAILS

  • Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per week for 10 weeks from early June to mid-August. Flexible schedule with some Saturday event commitments required.
  • Location: Hybrid—remote time (50%) with in-person time (50%) at the Conservancy’s office in Escondido, CA, or the Interpretive Center at the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve.
  • Compensation: This is an unpaid position. However, the intern will receive a $50 nominal fee per day for 3 outreach events throughout the internship, and mileage reimbursement will be provided for all in-person workdays.

Compensation Information
