We are looking for an enthusiastic guide/teacher for our 2-4 year old classroom. Total of 12 students with never less than 2 teachers.

Summary

Lead Teacher:  

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must have High School Diploma or General Education Diploma.
  • Must hold a CDA or complete a compliance plan toward earning a CDA.
  • Must hold and maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications, or immediately schedule the course upon being hired.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds.
  • Must have minimum of 1 year experience in preschool education (as shown by a positive reference from a former employer supervisor in the preschool education field).
  • Must have 9 semester hours (or 45 clock hours of approved in-service training) in the area of child development.
  • Maple class leads must hold a Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field. 

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times.
  • Ensure a safe environment including inspection of materials and environment.
  • Plan provocations for the children in the classroom that are developmentally appropriate and help children develop physically, cognitively, emotionally, and socially.
  • Implement the daily outline.
  • Ensure regular observation and documentation of each child throughout the year (must avoid semiannual “testing” of children).
  • Maintain daily child attendance log on Wonderschool.
  • Oversee and reply to class cell phone messages and calls; responses should be run by the director if unsure.
  • Plan, carry out and maintain logs of monthly fire drills.
  • Plan, carry out and maintain logs of monthly tornado drills between months of April-October.
  • Attend at least one staff meeting a month.
  • Attend monthly class lead meetings with admin and implement needed changes.
  • Meet with families at least semiannually to discuss child(ren)’s growth and development using approved progress report forms (Maple lead will meet with families to meet state requirements).
  • Submit supply orders to Director.
  • Attend 20 hours of in-service training per school year as agreed upon with Director.
  • Be familiar with state licensing regulations as well as with Program Policies of Discovery Central Forest School.

 

Starting pay for this position is $18/hour.

Compensation Information

Starting pay for this position is $18/hour. All full-time staff will be paid their normal rate for paid holidays if they fall on a normal work day. If the holiday falls on a nonwork day, it will be 8 hrs of vacation will be added to the employees accrued vacation. The following are paid holidays: Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day, and Fourth of July. 

For school vacations (such as winter, spring and summer breaks) there will be a specified amount of logged training or prep hours required to be paid in full for the break. Should the school close for snow days or other unforeseen reasons, there will be a specified amount of logged training or prep hours required to be paid in full. 

Full-time staff will accrue one hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked to a maximum of 72 hours a year.
