BEEC seeks a creative educator and nature lover who enjoys working with children outdoors, with strong leadership and inclusion skills to meet the diverse needs of children at camp. Nature Explorers camps enable children ages four to eleven to engage in nature exploration and discovery through inquiry, hands-on activities, lessons, games, stories, crafts and music.

Summary

Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center’s mission is to foster experiences that inspire connection to the natural world and its many inhabitants. BEEC has been providing southeastern Vermont with quality outdoor education programs for thirty four years.

Responsibilities: Create a welcoming, fun, safe, supportive, and inclusive camp experience where children explore, imagine, play and learn. Plan and lead camp activities in collaboration with other camp staff. Support children with diverse needs to participate in camp activities. Carry out both planned and emergent curriculum. Implement program policies and protocols. Set up and clean up for daily activities. Maintain materials and equipment. Administer first aid as needed. Each camp group will have a lead educator and an assistant, and the groups are supported by the camp director.

Qualifications: Relevant teaching experience. Compassionate, enthusiastic, friendly, patient, flexible and creative when working with children and adults. Experience supporting and meeting the diverse needs of children in the camp setting. Knowledge of and passion for the natural world. Ability to work independently and with a team. Ability to work outdoors, in variable weather conditions. Reliable and professional. 

Requirements: All staff are required to currently have and/or be willing to obtain: personal transportation, First Aid / CPR certification, Mandated Reporter certification, ability to pass a national background check. Lead Educators for this state licensed program are required to be at least 20 years of age, a high school graduate or has completed a GED, and meet one of the following qualifications:

  • At least successful completion of 21 college credits with an early childhood or school age focus and at least 12 months experience working with groups of children from grade three or younger;
  • Or, at least an associate degree from an accredited college with a major or concentration in Early Childhood, Child or Human Development, Elementary Education, or Child and Family Services and at least 12 months experience working with groups of children from grade three or younger;
  • Or, at least a Child Care Certificate from the Community College of Vermont and at least 12 months experience working with groups of children from grade three or younger;
  • Or, at least a Certificate of Completion from the Registered Child Care Apprenticeship Program;
  • Or, at least a Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level Three Certificate. 

Dates and hours: Training days during the week of June 23. Summer camp weeks June 30th to August 8th. Camp hours for staff are 8am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. Preference will be given to an individual that can work all 6 weeks of camp. Please state in your application if you are only available for specific weeks of the summer.

Compensation Information

Pay: $21 - $24 / hour, based on qualifications and experience. If you have specific requirements, please let us know in your letter of interest.
