The Program and Camp assistant job requires good organizational, teaching, and verbal communication skills. The assistant will be required to work with both the students and classroom teachers, help with Headwaters office work such as hiring paperwork, help with and maintain program equipment, and prepare program materials.

Summary

The program assistant helps program coordinators with the on-the-ground operations for programs and teaches Headwaters Science Institute’s school, after-school, and camp programs. This person is responsible for helping organize curriculum, program execution, teaching, and hiring and staffing program mentors. This person is responsible for executing the planned program and meeting the science standards that are designated. In support of this effort, the program assistant is responsible for bringing and maintaining the program equipment and ensuring the program staff/mentors know how to use it. The program assistant is responsible for helping with the execution and training of Student Driven Research to mentors for all programs. They are responsible for collecting all necessary materials, including photos, videos, data,  and surveys from programs to use for outreach and reports. 

 As a staff member, they represent and promote Headwaters Science Institute to all potential and current stakeholders, including: schools/teachers, donors, program parents, and the public.

 Essential Job Function: Program and Camp Assistant 

  • Teach at school programs, after-school programs, and camp programs
  • Organize, purchase, and maintain the necessary program equipment
  • Serve as a contact person for mentors, teachers, and parents during programs
  • Help with program paperwork, grant paperwork, mentor paperwork
  • Help with fundraising paperwork, tracking, planning, donor outreach
  • Permitting and overnight accommodations for programs
  • Help improve and develop curriculum, program materials, and marketing materials
  • Help with Mentor Hiring, Training, and Scheduling as detailed by each program plan
  • Participate in marketing media (e.g. videos, blog posts, etc.)
  • Community building and outreach: Fostering a sense of community, identifying and engaging potential supporters, especially among the program parents
  • Help plan and staff Headwaters outreach booths, events, and fundraisers
  • Other duties as assigned

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications/experience:

  • A passion for science and education
  • Organized
  • Achievement-oriented — enjoys taking on challenges
  • Experience teaching science classes or working at camp (formal or informal education is ok)
  • Background or experience with scientific research and fieldwork is a plus
  • Bachelors & 1-2 yrs experience or Associates &  3-4 yrs experience
  • Wilderness First Aid (8 hrs+) certification or more
  • Strong Customer Service skills: People-oriented — enjoys interacting with people
  • Enthusiasm and drive for marketing for a great cause is essential; experience is desirable but not essential
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy
  • Comfortable using many types of technology and a willingness to learn new software as needed
  • Energetic, can-do approach to work
  • Good problem-solving skills at a practical level
  • Engaging personal skills, both written and verbal, to support marketing and customer care with schools and parents
  • Flexible and Adaptable with changing task prioritization
  • Self-motivated and disciplined to regularly set and achieve work goals
  • Enjoy connecting with people electronically, over the phone, and in person.

Compensation Information

Pay: $22-$25 per hour, overtime as required by programs
