Summary
Job Title: Volunteer Program Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Community Partnerships
Supervises: Volunteers/Interns

Job Purpose: Join our team and make a real impact on the lives of children and foster their connection to nature! Thorne’s Volunteer Program Coordinator will work across Thorne programs to provide meaningful opportunities for volunteers to support Thorne’s mission in a wide range of programmatic and administrative roles. This position will have primary responsibility for the recruitment and coordination of Thorne volunteers, with the opportunity to take Thorne’s volunteer program in new and exciting directions in the coming months and years. This position will be in the field approximately 50% of the time, whether leading or facilitating Thorne programming, or training, mentoring, and supporting volunteers.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and support community-based volunteers to support Thorne programs, events, and tasks, and ensure a meaningful experience for all volunteers
- Support and facilitate a cross-organizational team of staff to serve as volunteer point persons for specific Thorne programs (i.e., preschool, school programs, stewardship, etc.)
- Support the growth and development of Thorne’s volunteer program – this position includes the opportunity for significant growth as the program expands in the coming months and years
- Teach and support Thorne field programs, including preschool, after-school, summer camp, school programs, stewardship activities, family programs, and more.
- All Thorne staff roles include a component of field work, and this role will both lead some programs and will support and mentor volunteers in the field.
- Participate in Thorne Nature Experience special events and outreach activities.
- Create an individual annual plan and work to achieve the goals set in the plan annually with support from direct supervisor.
- Support staff with other related tasks as needed.
- Reinforce and contribute to Thorne culture through leading by example. Job Interrelationships: Thorne staff, parents, students, volunteers, interns, school and community partners, and the general public.

- Experience coordinating volunteers in a professional setting.
- Experience relating to and communicating with diverse audiences, especially Latino/a/x participants, and families.
- Passion for Thorne’s mission.
- Strong communication skills with adults and children.
- Good organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and roles, patiently and professionally.
- Proficiency with or willingness to learn MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Drive.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Minimum Qualifications:
- This position must have some prior experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers.
- Willingness to obtain background check and fingerprints submitted and cleared by the Colorado Department of Human Services (Thorne pays for this and helps with the process).
- Current or willingness to obtain First Aid, CPR, and Standard Precaution training (Thorne will provide and pay for this if needed).
- Special Requirements:
- Reliable and efficient transportation.
- Willingness and ability to drive to programs at various locations (using Thorne vehicle).
- Ability to have a flexible schedule to permit for varied teaching calendar, including some weekend and evening programs.

Compensation Information
Job Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt Employee
Salary: $24.68/hour, Annual Equivalent of $51,343 if working 40 hours/week
Additional Compensation: • Additional compensation is provided for bicultural employees who are culturally fluent in the needs and experiences of the Latino/a/x community (10% increase to $56,477). • Seniority Pay (up to 5% of Base) • Performance Bonus (up to 10% of Base)
