Summary
The Zoo Camp Assistant is a seasonal position that will primarily be responsible for helping the Family Education Coordinator implement Zoo Camp programs. Camps typically occur Monday – Friday from 9:00am – 3:00pm with occasional 3-day camps. There are two training dates on May 6 and 13. The 2023 camp season is from May 24 – August 2 with this position starting on the first day of training (May 6th). The position will support the Education Department’s vision to create conservation leaders by creating opportunities for learning to inspire and empower action for wildlife and wild places.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Family Education Coordinator with coordinating and planning summer day camps, including working closely with camp instructors to provide a safe, fun, and engaging camp experience. This will include acting as a substitute camp instructor as needed.
- Assist the Family Education Coordinator with communicating to parents about camp schedules, student/camper needs, concerns and discipline.
- Assist with supervising youth and adult camp volunteers, creating a positive volunteer experience while meeting the needs of the program.
- Present live animal interpretation for camps as needed, including interpreting science and conservation concepts in an immersive, engaging, knowledgeable and inspiring way.
- Maintain all equipment and facilities to keep them clean, safe and professional in appearance.
- Assist with general Education Department duties as needed or assigned.

Compensation Information
This is a seasonal hourly position with a pay rate of $12.50 per hour. Housing and benefits are not provided.
