Join the Elizabeth River Project, a leading Virginia environmental non-profit, as our Youth Resilience Educator! We are seeking a dynamic individual passionate about education and the environment. This role involves teaching students, providing teacher training, and assisting with various educational programs.
Summary
Key Responsibilities:
- Educate K-12 students through hands-on activities and outdoor field investigations, which are mainly at Paradise Creek Nature Park and Camp E.W. Young, but may occasionally be at the Learning Barge.
- Develop and present ecology curriculum and conduct teacher trainings.
- Serve as a liaison for the Resilient River Star Schools program, recruit schools, and support program activities.
- Perform administrative tasks such as updating websites, maintaining contact lists, and assisting with grant deliverables.
- Prepare outdoor sites for programs and perform other duties as assigned.
Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week), occasional weekends and evenings
Qualifications:
- One year of experience teaching K-12 preferred.
- Background in science preferred.
- First aid/CPR certification and kayaking experience are a plus.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Requirements:
- Ability to lift 30 pounds overhead and work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to stand for 2-3 hours and walk up to 5 miles during field trips.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to engage audiences.
Additional Information:
- Must pass a background check.
- Reports to Sarah McBride, School Outreach Coordinator.

Compensation Information
Hourly Rate: $17.50/hour
