The Youth Education Programs Assistant provides essential support for all youth and family educational programming at the Gardens. The ideal candidate will be a responsible, customer-service oriented, enthusiastic self-starter who has a love for nature and the outdoors and will enjoy working with a team of educators to inspire a lasting connection between youth and nature.
The Youth Education Programs Assistant provides essential support for all youth and family educational programming at the Gardens. The ideal candidate will be a responsible, customer-service oriented, enthusiastic self-starter who has a love for nature and the outdoors and will enjoy working with a team of educators to inspire a lasting connection between youth and nature.
Summary
Primary Functions:
- Welcome and orient visiting school/youth groups.
- Lead classroom lessons and field studies for school/youth groups.
- Administer discovery carts and lead family garden walks in the Lerner Garden of the Five Senses, the Native Butterfly House and other high traffic areas in the Gardens.
- Assist the Summer Camp Coordinator in implementing nature- and garden-based summer camp programs for ages 4-9.
- Help to plan and co-lead our summer camp aftercare program.
- Assist visiting art instructors as they implement youth art workshops.
- Assist with the daily upkeep of the Alfond Children’s Garden play areas and structures.
- Assist with the daily care and maintenance of the Learning Garden and greenhouse.
- Supervise the Alfond Children’s Garden on the weekends and facilitate daily activities such as storytime, puppet shows, and chicken feeding.
- Lead Cider Saturdays in the Alfond Children’s Garden during the fall.
- Assist with other seasonal events as needed.
Full-time, seasonal employment. This position begins mid-April and continues through September, with the possibility of continuing through December assisting with our holiday lights event. The workweek will be Tuesday-Saturday from 8:45 a.m.-5:15 p.m. each day.

Compensation Information
$18.30-$20.50 per hour
