The Youth Conservation Corps Lead will lead a Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Crew (4 local students aged 15-18) working on maintenance, resource, and customer service projects within City of Rocks National Reserve and Castle Rocks State Park. This is a seasonal position with an anticipated start date of May 16, 2022 and concluding on August 5, 2022.

Summary

Base Wage: $15.70 per hour
Start: May 16, 2022   End: August 5th, 2022
Schedule: 40-hour weeks, generally 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Purpose: To lead a Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Crew (4 students aged 15-18) working on maintenance, resource, and customer service projects within City of Rocks National Reserve and Castle Rocks State Park.

Description of the Youth Conservation Corps Program: The program gives young people the opportunity to work in a park on projects that help the park meet its mission of preserving and protecting natural and cultural resources while managing recreation. The City of Rocks National Reserve and Castle Rocks State Park will have multiple projects and programs to build skill sets and increase outdoor knowledge and activity this summer. This will provide the YCC lead an opportunity to lead a team to accomplish park and agency goals and build knowledge of natural and cultural resources. Minimum Qualifications:

1. Legal U.S. resident, 18 years or older, with valid driver’s License or State ID

2. High School Diploma/GED

Desired Skills and Certifications:

1. Ability to work hard and meet project deadlines

2. Ability to lead a team and coordinate with other park personnel

3. Knowledge and ability to work safely and value the safety of others

4. Ability to work outside for long periods of time

5. Ability to take verbal direction and stay on task

6. Exhibit exceptional organization skills and compile daily work logs

Compensation Information

$15.70 per hour. In addition to hourly wages, seasonal staff have access to free camping for their work duration. Hook-ups may be available. Employees also have access to kitchen, laundry, and indoor bathroom facilities.
