Urban Adamah is looking for experienced and skilled care coordinators to create loving, inspiring, and transformative experiences for children at Urban Adamah All Year (UAAY). In this program, young people in grades TK–5 (ages 4–11) meet approximately every other Sunday to build their understanding of Jewish tradition and sustainable agriculture by engaging with the farm through hands-on projects, art, and discussion.

Summary

Urban Adamah prides itself on building connection and community using a variety of methods and points-of-access. As an All Year Care Coordinator, you will support students’ needs in Grades TK-5 approximately every other Sunday. You will collaborate with Youth Educators to support students with a variety of needs, in both group settings and through individualized support and 1:1 opportunities. You will support Educators in leading students through inquiry and study of Jewish tradition and ritual and its intersection with sustainable agriculture and earth tending.

STAFF SUPPORT MEMBER
The Care Coordinator is responsible for supporting different groups of 10-15 children while they are in group programming. In addition, the Care Coordinator shares the responsibility of leading whole-group activities, including beginning-of-day and end-of-day rituals, with Youth Educators.

  • When not directly supporting an individual student, the Care Coordinator is rotating between different groups to provide additional support. Educators may also request the Care Coordinator to join their chavurah group if specific support is needed.
  • The Care Coordinator approaches group members with care and emulates joy when joining a group.
  • The Care Coordinator is responsible for upholding standards of safety and respect within the group.

PREPARATION & FACILITATION
The Care Coordinator is responsible for facilitating check-ins, debriefs, and clear communication with Educators to best support them. This role may also include facilitating group dynamics and behavior discussions with chavurah groups as-needed. This includes:

  • After becoming familiar with the students, develop a course of action and schedule for working with individual student needs—particularly focusing on ways they can stay engaged with the group at-large and, as needed, when and how you will provide individualized support systems for students
  • Deliver ritual and transition spaces for young people including Opening and Closing Circles as well as mindfulness activities
  • Provide sense of community and purpose for young people
  • Support with setup and cleanup for each program

JEWISH FARM EDUCATION
Educators deliver well-versed content knowledge about topics ranging from farming techniques, earth-based Judaism and Jewish values, and Urban Adamah’s role in the greater ecosystem.

  • Deliver farm tours for youth programs that present a background history of Urban Adamah, and how Urban Adamah functions within the Bay Area community
  • Provide students with an understanding of the ways in which Jewish values align with Urban Adamah’s work on the farm through words, activities, and play-based programming.

SAFETY
All staff ensure that Urban Adamah is a safe environment for children, including physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

  • Staff make sure that all children are accounted for and within the delineated program areas from drop-off to pick-up time.
  • Staff keep a birds-eye-view of potential hazards around the farm, help children use tools safely, and are available to administer basic first aid.
